Maintenance of Certification (MOC)
Cancer Surgery Alberta (CSA) is pleased to announce that the Alberta WebSMR has been accredited by the Office of Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development, University of Calgary, for Section 5 accreditation (personal practice review) which allows 2 credits per hour with no maximum hours, effective July 28, 2008.
Section 5 encompasses Personal Practice Reviews, which includes activities that assist specialists to review their personal performance in practice in relation to a defined standard. In communicating with the RCPSC for Section 5 accreditation they have stated that in order for a physician to claim Section 5 credits the following applies: "If an individual physician wishes to audit his/her practice by creating their own audit, using an existing audit, being audited by an external body, etc., then they do not need to follow a formal process. The individual would need to provide a description of the focus of the audit, a summary of the findings, date of completion, and a description of learning outcomes."
For more information about Section 5 activities, please see http://rcpsc.medical.org/opd/moc-program/2006framework_e.pdf
Please note that CSA will provide each WebSMR surgeon with a summary of credits for all reports entered in WebSMR at the end of the year.
